The negative effects of stress
One of the biggest threats that stress presents is the problems that it can cause to your heart. Since stress makes your body go ‘into action’, your blood pressure is raised and your heart will beat at a more rapid rate. While not a problem for a short time, over a prolonged period of time these symptoms can lead to bigger problems. Heightened levels of blood pressure can lead to the development of scar tissue inside the arteries which can greatly increase your risk of developing heart disease. When your arteries become narrowed by this effect, they are all the more susceptible to be blocked when your blood pressure is increased upon the next stressful circumstance that you face. With heart disease being the number one killer inside the United States and many other industrialized countries today, it’s important to ensure that you are keeping your health in check. That includes ensuring that your levels of stress are not too significant. Exercise can be one helpful way of both increasing your heart strength and lessening the amount of stress that you face.
