Research has proven with a doubt that smoking is hard on pets of all kinds and can cause a variety of medical issues for them. Cats that live with smokers, and so breathe in secondhand smoke daily, double the risk of developing feline lymphoma as cats that live in a smoke free environment. Feline lymphoma is a type of cat cancer that is known for being deadly. Cats also develop an assortment of respiratory problems if their owners smoke. They can wind up wheezing, coughing and sneezing; all very unpleasant for them. Dogs also suffer from secondhand smoke but they are more likely to develop nose or sinus cancers over time. They can also suffer from other respiratory issues. Even rodents have difficulty when there is smoke in the home. Hamsters and guinea pigs often develop alopecia which is a condition where the animal loses its hair.
