Ancient Wisdom and Male Menopause

For instance, while our experts today are still busy debating whether or not such a thing as male menopause even exists, we can look back in history and discover that many ancient societies set aside the debate and began formulating ways to address the symptoms. They weren’t as worried about getting the name of the disease right as they were about treating the suffering they observed.

Many of these ancient people treated the entire body, spirit, and mind as a unified field that was interconnected. A physical symptom wasn’t considered an isolated thing, because the prevailing theory was that if a physical symptom was evident, then a spiritual symptom and a mental symptom may be close at hand. To treat only a single manifestation of the disease was considered “incomplete” and the healer worked hard to uncover the hidden symptoms within the soul and mind.

Today, as we face the uncertainties and complications of male menopause, we must look to the philosophy of the ancients to inspire us to treat all the possible levels of the symptoms we experience.

We must ask ourselves: what are the symptoms telling us? Are we to dismiss all fatigue as the result of overwork? Should we only view our depressions as being part and parcel with living in these harried and complicated times? Are we to be content with simply attributing our loss of self-confidence with having to cope with the overwhelming world around us?

Assuredly not, as long as we are wise enough to view our individual complaints and symptoms as only part of the story, rather like viewing the visible portion of an iceberg. In this manner we avoid simply taking a supplemental hormonal treatment and expecting that everything will be fine. No, we must address the issues within our lifestyles that contribute to the condition that vexes us.

We must exercise more, eat less unhealthy food, drink more pure water, and look to the comfort and support of our loved ones to help see us through a difficult time. If we smoke then we need to finally and completely quit, and if we drink alcohol we must show wisdom and moderation in our consumption. Depending on the advice of our physicians, we need to supplement our daily diets with beneficial herbs and vitamins.

If we treat the condition with the wisdom and open-mindedness that our ancient ancestors possessed, we may discover that male menopause need not be the beginning of the end of the road, but rather a whole new path that leads to the excitement and adventure that awaits us all, regardless of age. Don’t be content to treat a single symptom expecting miracles, instead treat the whole self and you will become the miracle yourself.
