Herbal remedies have been around for thousands of years, we have proof that they have been used for millennia rather than centuries, but what we don't know is how far back the use of herbal remedies went by our ancestors. Another herbal remedy in the home is garlic. Garlic is a foodstuff that we use for adding extra taste to our cuisine, yet it holds a more powerful use that many people do not know of. Many people say that garlic can clear your skin by sweating as it clears the pores, but it also acts as an antibiotic in the body. The reason why garlic has antibiotic qualities is because it contains the antibiotic compound called alliin. When we use garlic in meals we tend to crush or chop the garlic cloves, this action causes the alliin in garlic to convert to allicin, which is an enzyme. Allicin is the antibiotic and anitifungal product found in garlic, which is the reason you should eat more. There is one note about garlic, which is important. Allicin is a very unstable compound and will break down very quickly, especially through cooking, for best results it is advisable to eat garlic raw.
