The Onset Of Depression

Depression can be caused by many reasons, some of these are stress related, some due to long term drug abuse, some can even be caused by certain medications or just by giving birth, below you can see a story of how depression starts.

The story of depression

A man has been married for a few years now and has fathered two children with his wife. Due to the children being born, his wife has now left work and stays at home to look after them. The father works shifts at a local warehouse and only just brings in enough money to cover the bills and buy food. Recently the father found out that the company he is working for is struggling and some jobs may be lost, he goes home and speaks to his wife who doesn't seem very supportive, she is more interested in where he will find the money for them to live.

After a month the husband leaves to go to work one morning as usual to find the companies gates locked and other workers all standing around outside, his worst nightmare has turned into reality, the business has become bankrupt and all their jobs are lost.

Being paid monthly and this being midmonth, the husband finds out he has lost the last 2 weeks salary he has worked for so he starts to become very worried, he goes home and explains to his wife what has happened and she becomes angry, shouting at him telling him that he needs to find work to pay the bills.

The husband goes round every business in the area but to no avail, he goes home with no job and very cold. His wife is still unhappy with him and is not talking to him at all; the husband drinks heavy this first night after losing his job and goes bed in an unhappy mood.

A few weeks go by and the husband is still not working, he is still getting grief from his wife, also the bills are growing and he is starting to drink more and more. He tried to apply for a loan from a few local banks to help out, but he is refused due to his poor credit.

Over the next few months' things grow more desperate, his wife still angered by him and growing restless by his unhappiness, leaves the home taking the children with her, she has asked for a divorce, the husband starts drinking more heavily and the financial situation grows worse by the day.

Feeling alone and lost, the man ends up closing himself away from the world outside, only venturing out when extremely necessary, normally to buy enough alcohol provisions and a small amount of food to last for another week.

To summarize

This story may seem far fetched to some, but to others it is a stark reality of how financial woes, low self esteem, lack of emotional support or even drinking alcohol can have detrimental affects and can cause the onset of depression.

Depression can affect anyone, any age, anywhere; people are affected by depression for many different reasons.
