A Basic Colon Cleanse

Here is a basic colon cleanse regimen for those who have never done a colon cleanse before or for those who haven't done one in a long time and need a reminder. There are four basic steps to the colon cleanse. The first step is what you do before you do the colon cleansing. The second step is doing the basic cleanse. The third step is what you do during the cleansing. The last step involves what you do after the cleansing is done and for about 2 to 4 weeks afterwards.

Step 1.

Step one, you do before the colon cleanse. You want to discontinue any medications that you are taking that are not absolutely necessary (check with your healthcare provider), including any daily vitamins you are taking. Some people like to do a short fast before cleansing, but that is not necessary to do. If you do want to do a simple fast you can drink water with some salt, or drink just fresh fruit juice or vegetable juice. If you are underweight, it may not be a good idea to fast. It is believed that fasting beforehand makes the cleansing go smoother, but it is not necessary to fast.

Some individuals find it helpful to do yoga or other types of meditation while preparing to cleanse, as the process of cleaning can be stressful to some people.

Step Three.

Step three you do while you are drinking the P&B shakes. Cleansing tends to dehydrate your body, so it is necessary that you drink as much liquids as possible. Stay away from tea or coffee. Drink plain water, fresh fruit or vegetable juices or herbal tea.

Cleansing will not only remove the harmful toxins it will also remove the good bacteria from your colon as well, so you must restore these to your body by taking a probiotic. It is also important to use an enema or salt water flush daily to prevent toxins from circulating back into the body. It is necessary to do this because the P&B shakes push the stuff through your colon, but there is no guarantee that all of it will be excreted, and the enema or salt water flush will do this. A salt water flush involves drinking 2 quarts of salt water first thing in the morning. This salt water drink tastes awful, so not many opt to do this.

Step 4.

Step 4 is for after the colon cleansing. Most individuals cleanse for 2 to 4 weeks, it depends on your age, the older you are and if you haven't cleansed before it may take the 4 weeks to see good results (mucoid plaque coming out). Try to maintain good eating habits (natural foods not processed), daily exercising and drink plenty of plain water.
